Roma Nears Deal for Rodrigo Mora with FC Porto
For weeks, Roma and FC Porto circled each other over Rodrigo Mora, locked in talks that kept stalling on the same point: how to slice up a €50m operation without either club blinking first.
Now the deadlock has finally cracked.
Multiple sources in Italy and Portugal confirm that Roma are ready to pay €25m to acquire 50 per cent of Mora’s rights, with an option to buy the remaining half from Porto for another €25m at the end of the season. It’s the same total value as before, but with a structure both clubs can live with.
That wasn’t the case even a few days ago.
The previous formula on the table was a €10m paid loan with an option to buy set at €40m, which would turn into an obligation if certain conditions were met. That’s where everything jammed. Porto pushed for those conditions to be so soft they were almost a guarantee. Roma pushed back, wanting the obligation tied to serious sporting milestones such as Champions League qualification, or even winning the Scudetto.
Talks slowed. Then they almost stopped.
The new agreement cuts through that tension. Roma commit real money now for half of Mora, but keep control over whether to go all-in next summer. If they decide not to exercise the second €25m option, Porto will retain their 50 per cent share and stand to collect on any future sale.
For Porto, that safety net matters. If Mora explodes in Serie A, they still own a significant piece of his future. If he doesn’t, they’ve already banked a substantial fee.
The urgency comes from the pitch as much as the balance sheet. Mora is not part of coach Francesco Farioli’s plans at Porto, and both clubs are now driving hard to close the deal within days.
Roma get a high-level attacking option without immediately swallowing the full €50m risk. Porto get clarity, cash, and a stake in whatever Mora becomes next.
Now it’s just a matter of signatures – and whether this shared bet on 50 per cent today turns into a full commitment tomorrow.
