Rodri Revels in Barcelona Debut as Team Cruises Past Athletic Club

Rodri Thrilled After First Barcelona Appearance in Solid 2-0 Win

Rodri expressed his joy following his debut for Barcelona, helping the team secure a commanding 2-0 victory over Athletic Club at Camp Nou. The midfielder, who joined from Manchester City during the busy summer transfer window, stepped onto the pitch for the first time as Hansi Flick's side extended their perfect start to the La Liga season.

Raphinha and Fermin Seal the Win

Barcelona continued their flawless run with a comfortable win against Athletic Club. Despite fielding a young starting lineup that included four teenagers, it was the seasoned Raphinha who opened the scoring. In the 37th minute, he received a precise pass from Pedri, beat goalkeeper Unai Simon, and calmly finished to put the hosts ahead.

The home team controlled much of the match, forcing Simon into eight key saves to keep Athletic in the game. Eventually, Fermin Lopez wrapped up the victory in the 82nd minute by capitalizing on a defensive mistake from Aymeric Laporte, tapping in from close range after a dangerous cross from Karim Adeyemi.

Rodri’s Camp Nou Debut

Rodri entered the match in the 63rd minute, replacing Raphinha to make his first appearance for Barcelona. The Spanish international had missed earlier matches due to minor back surgery but was eager to finally play.

“Very happy to make my debut. Happy with the win. Two for two,” the 30-year-old told DAZN. “It’s important to get into a rhythm and adapt to this great team. First few minutes and good feeling.”

“It’s been a long summer, longer than usual. I need to get back into the swing of things quickly. This is where I wanted to be, and I’m happy with how things have turned out. Now it’s time to get to work.”

He also praised young teammate Lamine Yamal for bouncing back strong after a difficult spell.

“Lamine was coming off a rough patch, but today he bounced back and showed his best form. We need that from him, that work ethic and consistency, because the talent is there and the goals will come.”

Flick Praises Rodri as Ideal Signing

The arrival of Rodri has clearly boosted spirits at the club. Manager Hansi Flick spoke highly of his new signing during the post-match press conference.

“Everyone is happy he’s playing for us, playing for Barca,” Flick said. “He’s the perfect player for us, the perfect player for our philosophy, the style we want to play football.”
