Real Madrid Considers Surprising Move for Arsenal Midfielder Martin Zubimendi

Real Madrid Rekindles Interest in Martin Zubimendi

In the final weeks of the summer transfer window, Real Madrid has renewed their pursuit of Arsenal's midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Spanish club is set to challenge Arsenal's resolve after manager Jose Mourinho gave the green light for a possible transfer for the 27-year-old Spain international.

Mourinho Approves Move

According to TEAMtalk, Mourinho has given his backing to sign Zubimendi, seeing him as a valuable addition to bolster Madrid’s holding midfield. Talks between the clubs have already started, and Zubimendi's agents have expressed the player's strong interest in joining Madrid.

Arsenal’s Position Unclear

While Arsenal is not actively pushing Zubimendi out, they may consider selling if the right offer arrives. Real Madrid believes a unique chance has emerged to bring the midfielder back to Spain. Reports from The Sun suggest that Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta wants to keep Zubimendi unless an extraordinary bid comes in. If Zubimendi pushes hard for the transfer, Arteta will face a tough decision soon.

Competition in Arsenal’s Midfield

Zubimendi was crucial to Arsenal's Premier League title-winning season last year. However, his spot has become less secure after Arsenal spent £75 million on Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. Alongside Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, and Guimaraes, the midfield is crowded with talent. Letting go of a World Cup winner after only one year would be a significant risk.

Madrid’s interest follows their failure to sign Rodri. Mourinho desires more control in midfield, and Zubimendi could play a key role if Eduardo Camavinga leaves Santiago Bernabeu.

Arsenal Holds All the Cards

Financially, Arsenal is under no pressure to sell Zubimendi this window. His long-term contract gives the club full control over any negotiations. The Gunners aim to defend their Premier League crown and pursue Champions League success, so selling a key player simply due to squad depth would contradict those goals.

Real Madrid must make a substantially high offer beyond Arsenal's original investment to make a sale worthwhile. Unless Mourinho’s side presents an exceptional proposal, keeping Zubimendi will remain a priority for the London club.
