Raheem Sterling Charged with Dangerous Driving and Nitrous Oxide Possession

Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after crashing his car in May, Hampshire police have confirmed.

The 31-year-old former England winger is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on 15 September following a single-vehicle collision on the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange on 28 May, 2026.

Police said the crash involved a Lamborghini and that no other vehicles were caught up in the incident. No injuries were reported.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman told BBC News: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3. Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.”

Sterling, currently without a club after leaving Dutch side Feyenoord at the end of last season, now faces a court date that sits in stark contrast to the heights of his career.

Once a central figure for the Three Lions, Sterling has 82 England caps and 20 international goals, and played a major role in England’s run to the 2018 World Cup semifinals and the Euro 2020 final.

At club level he has worn the colours of some of England’s biggest sides, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Now, as he waits for his next move in football, his immediate future will be shaped not by a transfer decision, but by the outcome in a magistrates’ court.
