Nico O’Reilly Crowned PFA Men’s Young Player of the Year

Nico O’Reilly has been branded a “shining example” after the Manchester City full-back was crowned PFA Men’s Young Player of the Year on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old’s rise has gathered speed over the past 12 months. He hit two goals in last season’s Carabao Cup final to deliver silverware, added an FA Cup winner’s medal, and played his part in England’s run to third place at the World Cup. The latest honour was handed over at Manchester’s Opera House, a fittingly grand setting for a story that has its roots in the academy pitches on the other side of the city. O’Reilly’s win continues a remarkable pattern: five of the last six winners of this award have come through City’s academy, following Phil Foden (twice), Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers.
