PSV's Quiet Summer: Key Transfer Targets Revealed
On the surface, PSV’s summer looks strangely calm. No big unveilings, no transfer fireworks. But behind the quiet façade in Eindhoven, the machine is very much running.
Technical director Earnest Stewart has drawn up a clear shopping list: a left-back, a centre-back and a defensive midfielder. Three positions, three priority names. And according to Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV have already pushed well beyond the exploratory stage.
Geertruida deal advanced – but not uncontested
The most advanced file is that of Lutsharel Geertruida. PSV have been working on the versatile defender “for several weeks already” and have now reached a personal agreement with him. The player is on board.
That does not mean the deal is done.
RB Leipzig are holding out for a €20 million fee, and Feyenoord have not given up on bringing Geertruida back to Rotterdam. PSV have their man’s approval, but they are not alone at the table, and Leipzig know it. For Stewart, this is the type of transfer that defines a window: a statement signing in a key area, but only if the numbers fall into line.
Kostic on the radar, but not short of suitors
On the left flank, PSV are looking at Filip Kostic. The Serbian is a free agent after leaving Juventus, which makes him an attractive proposition financially in terms of fee, but not necessarily simple.
Kostic has options. AEK Athens have already put a contract in front of him, and other clubs are circling. PSV see him as a ready-made solution for the wing, a player who can raise the level immediately. The question is whether Eindhoven’s project and financial package can outmuscle the rest.
Sano admired, but price stalls PSV
In midfield, Kodai Sano has emerged as the ideal reinforcement. The NEC midfielder is keen on the move, his agent José Fortez Rodriguez is positive, and the profile fits what PSV want at the base of their midfield.
The sticking point is the fee.
NEC are reportedly asking around €18 million. For PSV, that is still too high. They like the player, they like the idea, but they are not prepared to stretch to that figure yet. Unless the price drops or money comes in, Sano remains more ambition than reality.
Outgoings on hold, urgency muted
That is the other side of this quiet summer: PSV’s major departures have not materialised.
Mauro Júnior, Joey Veerman and Sergiño Dest have all been linked with moves away, but nothing has broken. Mauro went a step further on Friday, stating at a press conference that he will “definitely” stay at PSV. With Jerdy Schouten sidelined by a knee injury, the Brazilian wears the armband for now and anchors the dressing room.
Veerman and Dest are in a different situation. Both could leave for the right offer — Veerman at around €20 million, Dest at roughly €23 million — yet there has been no concrete movement for either. The market is watching, not acting.
So PSV wait.
As Elfrink put it, these are players who would like to take a step abroad, but if they stay longer, they are not seen as a problem. That tension shapes everything: the club want to refresh and reinforce, but not at the cost of weakening the core before the season truly starts.
For now, Eindhoven’s window is defined by preparation rather than spectacle. The targets are clear, the lines are out. The moment the first big sale lands — or a selling club blinks on price — PSV’s quiet summer could change in an instant.
