Harry Kane's Premier League Future: Why He Remains at Bayern Munich
Harry Kane has drawn a firm line under the Premier League talk – for now, at least.
Linked again with Manchester United and a romantic return to Tottenham, the Bayern Munich striker has laid out why the pull of England no longer tugs at him the way it once did.
Kane’s Premier League chapter stays closed
Kane walked out of the Premier League in 2023 with 213 goals, leaving Alan Shearer’s record of 260 intact and Wayne Rooney (208) just behind. The obvious storyline has lingered ever since: one day he comes back, chases down Shearer, and writes the final chapter where it all began.
Clubs have certainly been ready to help him do it. TEAMtalk reported last week that both Manchester United and Tottenham were prepared to move for him this summer. Spurs, under Roberto De Zerbi, have kept the door wide open for a sensational reunion with their record goalscorer. United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is known to be an admirer and open to exploring a deal.
Barcelona interest has been floated. Tottenham’s stance is clear. United’s too. Kane, though, has not been pushing for anything.
There was even a left‑field twist: news of his camp holding talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. Big money, a different continent, a different kind of decision.
Yet the most realistic outcome, as Fabrizio Romano has reported, is far more straightforward – Kane signing new terms at Bayern Munich.
“That itch isn’t there as much anymore”
Speaking after receiving the European Golden Shoe, in quotes carried by journalist Henry Winter, Kane admitted that his outlook has changed since leaving Spurs.
“When I first left, for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore,” he said.
He has every reason to feel settled. Since arriving in Germany, he has done exactly what Bayern bought him to do: dismantle Bundesliga defences and carry that same ruthlessness into Europe. He has struck 33 times in 38 Champions League appearances for the club, numbers that back up his status in the debate with Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé as the game’s leading No 9.
“I’m extremely happy here in Munich,” Kane continued. “It’s opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England. It’s made me appreciate European football even more.
“With the team we have here, with the manager (Vincent Kompany). My family are really settled here. It’s just about being in the best place possible.
“I never say never but, for now, I’m concentrating on Bayern Munich and we’ll see what the future holds.”
So the Premier League waits. Shearer’s record breathes a little easier. Tottenham’s dream of a homecoming and United’s search for a marquee No 9 both run into the same answer: Harry Kane is exactly where he wants to be – and he no longer feels the need to come back to prove anything.
