PSG Chase Historic Third Straight Champions League Title
PSG Aim for Unprecedented Third Consecutive Champions League Victory
Paris Saint-Germain start this season with the goal of joining an elite group by winning their third straight Champions League title. Only three clubs in history have achieved three European Cup wins in a row: Real Madrid, Ajax Amsterdam, and Bayern Munich.
PSG secured their second consecutive trophy on May 30, 2026, defeating Arsenal after extra time with a 1-1 draw followed by a 4-3 penalty shootout win.
Historical Context
During the era of the European Cup before 1992, it was easier to build dynasties due to fewer entrants per country and usually only seven matches to claim the trophy. Between 1956 and 1992, eight teams managed to defend their title, making back-to-back wins more common.
Since the introduction of multiple entries from top leagues, only Real Madrid under Zinédine Zidane (2016-2018) and now PSG under Luis Enrique (2025-2026) have successfully retained the Champions League crown.
PSG's Challenge This Season
This year’s campaign highlights how far PSG has climbed in European football, attempting to join that rarefied group who have won three times running.
