Martinelli Rejects Galatasaray Move as Arsenal Faces Summer Sales

Gabriel Martinelli has made his stance clear. The Brazilian winger does not want a move to Galatasaray, despite a sizeable offer landing on Arsenal’s desk this summer.

According to The Athletic, the Turkish champions have submitted a €45 million bid – around £38.4 million – for the 25-year-old. On paper, it is the kind of figure that could tempt a club under pressure to sell. On the player’s side, there is no temptation at all.

His camp have informed Arsenal’s hierarchy that he has no desire to join Galatasaray in this window. No negotiations, no flirting with the idea. For now, his future, as he sees it, remains in north London.

Long contract, short-term uncertainty

Martinelli is tied to Arsenal until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend that deal to 2028. Despite that security, talks over a fresh renewal have not started.

Inside the club, he is still viewed as one of the players who could be sold if the right offer arrived. Not pushed out, but not ring-fenced either. If a truly “attractive” number appears, Arsenal would at least listen. The twist is that the player himself is not pushing for any exit.

Signed from Brazilian side Ituano in 2019, Martinelli has become a long-term project turned mainstay. He has already racked up 278 first-team appearances and scored 62 goals in Arsenal colours, numbers that underline both his durability and his importance across several seasons.

Last season he featured in 53 matches in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 7 assists as Arsenal lifted the Premier League title and reached the Champions League final. Those are not the figures of a fringe option.

Arsenal’s need to sell

The resistance from Martinelli’s side comes against a backdrop of financial reality at the Emirates.

Arsenal entered this summer’s market knowing they would need to move players on to balance the books. That plan is already in motion. Leandro Trossard has joined Besiktas in a €20 million deal, while Christian Norgaard has completed a £7 million switch to Everton. The departures help, but they are not seen as enough. Inside the club, the expectation is that more exits will be required before the window closes.

That context explains why a €45 million offer for a wide forward with strong resale value would at least be discussed internally. The sporting argument, though, runs in the other direction. Martinelli is in his prime years, steeped in the club’s recent rise, and proven at the top end of the Premier League and Champions League.

New faces on the wing, same answer from Martinelli

Arsenal have already moved to refresh their wide options. Greek winger Christos Tzolis has arrived from Club Brugge, adding competition and depth on the flanks. The club also explored an ambitious move for Vinicius Junior before the Brazilian renewed his contract with Real Madrid, a sign of how aggressively they are thinking about their attacking future.

Those moves inevitably raise questions about roles, minutes, and hierarchy in the front line. For some players, that kind of recruitment drive can be a nudge toward the exit. Martinelli has responded in the opposite way. Despite the interest from Galatasaray and Arsenal’s openness to sales in principle, he is not pushing for a change of scenery.

The market will keep circling. The numbers will keep rising. But as things stand, one thing is fixed: Martinelli does not see his next step in Istanbul. The real question is whether Arsenal’s financial needs, and any future bids, will eventually test that resolve.
