ADO's Coach Peter Responds to Team Selection Leak

Head coach Peter has slammed the leak of his team selection online, insisting that protecting his side’s tactical edge now outweighs the club’s tradition of open training sessions.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, the ADO boss did not hide his irritation after details from training were shared almost in real time.

"I don't know who it was, but in any case someone, or a few people, posted information online immediately. That makes keeping training sessions open completely pointless for us," he said.

The leak has forced a hard reset. A club that wants supporters close now has to push them back a step.

"I have no idea if this happened last year as well, but this time I knew it was posted online straight away," Peter explained. "We want everyone to be able to come and watch training, but that information has to stay inside the complex. That didn't happen, so we have to close the doors."

Focus back on the pitch

Once the anger over the breach is parked, Peter’s attention snaps to something far more enticing: ADO’s first Eredivisie home game in five years.

The stadium will be full on Sunday afternoon as ADO welcome FC Groningen on matchday two of the 2026-27 campaign. The hosts are still chasing their first points of the season after a 2-0 opening-day defeat to AZ, decided by second-half goals from Ro-Zangelo Daal and Calvin Stengs.

Peter is not expecting a cagey return to top-flight football in front of his own fans.

"I don't expect any surprises and I'm hoping for an open game played at high intensity by both teams," he said, setting the tone for what he wants the occasion to be rather than retreating into damage limitation.

It will not be simple. Groningen arrive with momentum after edging past FC Utrecht in their curtain-raiser and look like a side already up to speed.

Team news and selection dilemmas

ADO’s preparations are complicated by a handful of fitness issues. Jalen Hawkins remains sidelined with a hamstring problem, while Cameron Peupion is still a long-term absentee following knee surgery.

There is better news in goal. Niclas Thiede has returned to full training after an ankle injury and is back in contention, a timely boost with the season only just under way.

Cagliari loanee Othniel Raterink is also pushing his way into the matchday picture. He is still building match fitness, so a place on the bench looks most likely, but his presence offers Peter another option as he tries to sharpen his side in both boxes.

A sold-out home crowd, an in-form opponent, and a coach already forced to close ranks to protect his plans: ADO’s Eredivisie homecoming carries more edge than anyone at the club might have imagined a week ago.
