Marcus Rashford's New Tattoos: The Story Behind Numbers 14 and 9

Marcus Rashford has found room for two more numbers on his skin – and on his story.

The Manchester United forward has added 14 and 9 to his growing collection of tattooed shirt numbers, according to Manchester-based artist Dale McGovern. They now sit alongside the familiar 39, 19 and 10 already inked on his body, each one a marker of a stage in his career.

The new 14 is a nod to Barcelona. Rashford wore it during his first move abroad, a short but significant spell in Catalonia in which he helped the club win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. That number now lives permanently with him, a reminder of the season he stepped out of his comfort zone and left with trophies.

The 9 tells a different tale. It belongs to Aston Villa, where he carried the centre-forward’s number before returning to Old Trafford with the same digit on his back. It is also the fourth shirt number he has worn for Manchester United, another layer in a journey that has taken him from academy hopeful to senior figure and back again into the heart of the club’s plans.

Each number is a chapter. Rashford has simply made sure none of them can fade.
