Marcus Rashford Commits to Manchester United for 2026/27 Season

Marcus Rashford has turned his back on a summer escape route and is set to stay at Manchester United for the 2026/27 season, rebuffing serious interest from Fenerbahce, according to The Times.

The Turkish giants, buoyed by Champions League qualification and eager to make a statement, had targeted the 28-year-old as the marquee signing to front their European push. Istanbul, big wages, top-level European football – on paper, it was a compelling offer.

Rashford wasn’t tempted.

The forward has made it clear he has no desire to move to the Super Lig, a stance that marks a striking shift from the start of the window, when he appeared ready to draw a line under his United career and seek a permanent move away from Old Trafford.

His future has been a running saga all summer. A productive loan spell at Barcelona last season reignited his reputation and fuelled speculation that he would push hard to stay at the Nou Camp. Earlier in the window, he was understood to be desperate for a clean break from his boyhood club.

That urgency has faded. The mood has changed.

Barcelona, crucially, walked away. The Catalan club chose not to trigger the £26m release clause in his contract, a decision that effectively shut the door on Rashford’s preferred destination. Instead, they raided the Premier League elsewhere, bringing in Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund to refresh their attack.

With the transfer deadline looming next Tuesday, the landscape is now clear. Rashford is staying put and is fully focused on forcing his way back into Michael Carrick’s plans. Inside Carrington, his work has not gone unnoticed.

Carrick has been openly impressed by Rashford’s attitude and fitness since his return to pre-season, which began in earnest when he linked up with Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martínez in Dublin. The United head coach said: “It's been pretty obvious since Marcus came back training with Kobbie [Mainoo] and Licha [Martinez] pretty much in Dublin that he's come back fantastically well, you know.”

That endorsement matters. So does the timing.

Rashford came off the bench in United’s recent defeat to Hull City, replacing Patrick Dorgu in the second half, a small but symbolic step in his reintegration. Inside the dressing room, he remains a heavyweight presence: 138 goals in 427 appearances for the club tell their own story.

United, for their part, look increasingly content to keep him. His £325,000-a-week wages have always narrowed the field of realistic buyers, limiting the number of clubs capable of funding a permanent deal. With only days left in the window and no acceptable offer on the table, a reunion rather than a parting of ways now suits all sides.

The relationship between player and coach appears central to this late U-turn. Carrick’s trust, coupled with Rashford’s renewed sharpness, has shifted the narrative from exit talk to opportunity.

Next up is Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday. If selected, it will be Rashford’s first appearance at the stadium since December 2024 – a poignant return for a forward who has spent the past year hovering between eras, unsure whether his future lay in Manchester or elsewhere.

Now the picture is clearer. United, third in the Premier League last season and intent on pushing on, have a seasoned England international back in the mix for the final third.

The question is no longer where Rashford will play. It’s what version of him United are about to get.
