Manchester United Aim to Retain JJ Gabriel Amid Chelsea Interest

Manchester United are ramping up efforts to keep teenage sensation JJ Gabriel at Old Trafford as heavyweight rivals circle for his signature.

The 15-year-old forward is viewed inside the club as one of the standout prospects in their academy and has the numbers to back it up: 29 goals in 32 games for the U18s. Those returns have not gone unnoticed.

Chelsea, according to TEAMtalk, are currently leading the chase among a cluster of Premier League and European clubs and are seen as Gabriel’s strongest suitors outside United. That interest has sharpened minds in Manchester.

United are described as “pushing for an agreement” over a new deal and are said to be “confident” they can tie him down. The key date is October, when Gabriel becomes eligible to sign scholarship terms. That moment is expected to trigger a surge in attention around his future, and United want to be ready.

Behind the scenes, the club are working to ensure that his rapid rise continues in Manchester rather than elsewhere. With Champions League football returning and the club reshaping under Michael Carrick, losing one of their most coveted youngsters to a direct rival would be a damaging blow to the long-term project.

Carrick’s United have already been aggressive in the senior market. The midfield has been reinforced with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, and the club are still hunting a third midfielder, a left-back, a winger and potentially a striker. At the same time, they are trying to lock in the next generation, and Gabriel sits right at the top of that list.

United eye Tresoldi as striker hunt heats up

While they fight to keep one young No.9, United are also weighing up a move for another.

Caught Offside report that the club have “stepped up their interest” in Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi, who is attracting serious attention across Europe. The 21-year-old is said to be firmly on the radar of Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona.

Any deal is expected to cost in the region of €45–50m, roughly £43m, a figure that makes him comparatively attractive in a market flooded with inflated striker fees.

Barcelona are currently viewed as favourites. They have accelerated their pursuit after the departure of Robert Lewandowski and see Tresoldi as a key target to refresh their attack. But their financial constraints could yet complicate a move at that price point and leave the door open for a Premier League bid.

Industry sources cited in the report suggest that Chelsea, United and Spurs are all increasingly turning to Tresoldi as a realistic option through the middle this summer, a player who offers high upside without the nine-figure price tag that has become the norm.

United’s stance is clear. They want a proven addition up front, they want to keep their brightest academy striker, and they want both decisions to shape the club’s attack for years rather than months. The question now is whether they can win two battles at once – one in the boardroom, and one in a transfer market that rarely waits for anyone.
