Liverpool's Summer Transfer Window: Two or Three New Signings Expected

Andoni Iraola is not finished with this Liverpool squad. Not yet.

That is the expectation of former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who believes Anfield is braced for a frantic end to the summer window, with “two or three” new faces still to come and a string of departures on the cards.

Anfield rebuild far from complete

Liverpool have already moved early. Jeremy Jacquet finally arrived after his pre-contract agreement in February, with Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo also joining the Iraola era on Merseyside.

Those signings have not calmed the nerves.

Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah have all walked away as free agents, stripping experience and star power from the spine of the team in one hit. For a fanbase used to stability at the top end of the pitch and at the back, the sense of unease about the coming campaign is real.

Pre-season has not helped. Defeats to Leeds United and Monaco have underlined what the eye already suspected: this squad still looks short.

Borson expects Liverpool to respond.

‘They’re going to buy two or three players’

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson outlined why he believes the window is about to catch fire at Anfield.

“There's then the clearing. I think you have a sort of clearing situation where the clubs are trying to get rid of their fringe players,” he said, predicting a spell of ruthless trimming across the Premier League.

“Liverpool, presumably, are going to start being active in the market. You've got to think they're going to buy two or three players in the last couple of weeks.

“I still think there's a lot of business that's going to get done, but probably on the lower end, the sort of sub-£50million level.”

So the expectation is clear: Liverpool will move, but not at the very top of the market. Smart deals, not galáctico fireworks.

Barcola, Mbaye and the search for value

Most of the noise has centred on Bradley Barcola. The PSG winger is admired at Anfield, but the Champions League winners’ valuation has turned negotiations into a stand-off. Liverpool like the player. They do not like the price.

That has pushed other names into the conversation.

Ibrahim Mbaye has emerged as a possible alternative, a player viewed as a cheaper option to Barcola’s profile this summer. The logic is simple: if PSG refuse to budge, Liverpool will not be held hostage. They will pivot.

The question is how far down the price scale they are willing to go while still finding the quality Iraola needs to keep this team competing at the very top.

Outs on the horizon

It is not just about who comes in. The exit door could be busy too.

Cody Gakpo is on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar. Whether Spurs turn that interest into a formal bid remains to be seen, but the link alone is a reminder that Liverpool’s attacking options are being closely watched across the league.

Alexis Mac Allister’s future has also been a talking point, his name regularly surfacing in discussions about potential reshapes of the midfield.

Then there is Alisson.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was expected to head for Juventus earlier in the summer, a move that at one stage looked feasible. Time has changed the picture. With only days left before the new season kicks off, cashing in now would be a huge gamble for Liverpool, one that would create a problem in a position they can least afford to destabilise.

So the clock ticks down.

A squad in flux, a manager still moulding his first Liverpool side, and a market that Borson believes will stay busy right until the end. The window will slam shut soon enough — the real story is what Liverpool look like when the noise finally stops.
