Liverpool's Bold Move for Bradley Barcola: PSG's Resolve Tested

Liverpool have stepped firmly into the Bradley Barcola saga, launching an audacious bid to prise the French forward away from Paris Saint-Germain as tensions rise behind the scenes in Paris.

According to L’Equipe, the Premier League club are preparing an offer in the region of €115 million for the 23-year-old, a figure that underlines just how highly Liverpool rate the winger. It is also a figure PSG are expected to brush aside. The French champions are holding out for more than €150m and have been adamant for months that Barcola is not for sale.

That stance is starting to crack.

Barcola has made it clear he will not sign a new contract at the Parc des Princes. The message from the player’s camp is simple: his future lies elsewhere, and Liverpool are the destination he is leaning towards. When a cornerstone of a club’s project decides he wants out, even the wealth and power of PSG begin to look vulnerable.

This is not a fringe player trying to force a move. Since arriving from Lyon in 2023, Barcola has grown into a central figure in Paris. Across all competitions, he has already racked up 152 appearances, scoring 39 goals and supplying 37 assists. Last Season

Last season he did exactly that. Barcola played a key role in PSG’s run to the Champions League crown and another Ligue 1 title, his direct running and fearless dribbling stretching defences across Europe and France. His pace rips open space, his ball-carrying drags teams out of shape, and his ability to glide past opponents has made him one of the most coveted young forwards in the game.

Yet success has not brought satisfaction.

The relationship between Barcola and Luis Enrique took a hit when the coach left him out of PSG’s biggest fixtures, including the Champions League final. Those omissions cut deep. For a player who had helped drive the club to the showpiece, watching from the sidelines on the grandest stage planted doubts about his standing in the project.

Those doubts have now hardened into a decision not to extend his stay in Paris.

Barcola’s stock has risen beyond club level as well. He represented France at the summer’s World Cup, scoring three goals in eight appearances and showing he can translate his club form to the international stage. For a 23-year-old, that combination of experience, output and big-tournament exposure makes him one of the most intriguing attacking options on the market.

His versatility only adds to the appeal. Barcola is at his most devastating off the left flank, driving inside or darting beyond the full-back, but he can operate on the right or through the middle when required. For Liverpool, who have long thrived on fluid, interchanging forwards, that profile fits neatly into their attacking blueprint.

PSG, though, are not in the habit of being bullied in the market. They have repeatedly insisted that Barcola forms part of their long-term vision. Yet the reality is shifting. A player of his value refusing to commit forces even a club of PSG’s resources to listen when nine-figure offers land on the table.

Liverpool’s proposed €115m bid might not be enough to break the door down. It might, however, be enough to unlock the conversation. When a star of Barcola’s calibre wants out and a club of Liverpool’s stature comes calling, stalemates rarely last forever.

The question now is not whether PSG like the player. It is how long they can afford to keep a restless one.
