Chelsea Approves Sale of Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have approved the permanent sale of striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the Spaniard to swap west London for the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete his move to Leipzig, though voices in Germany are stressing that final details still need to be ironed out before the transfer is officially sealed. The fee remains under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m, a sharp rise on what Chelsea paid barely a year ago.

Chelsea brought Guiu in from Barcelona, his boyhood club, in 2024 for about £5m, a low‑risk punt on a highly rated Spain Under-21 international. His time at Stamford Bridge, though, never truly settled. A brief loan at Sunderland last season yielded just three appearances, and he finished his Chelsea stint with 29 games and eight goals in all competitions.

Those numbers only tell part of the story. Six of those eight goals came in Chelsea’s triumphant 2024-25 Conference League campaign, where Guiu often looked more at home under European floodlights than in the grind of domestic football. Even so, his long-term pathway under the current regime never quite materialised.

The writing had been on the wall this summer. Guiu trained away from the main first-team group, a clear signal that the club were preparing for life without him and that his next step would likely come away from Stamford Bridge.

Behind the scenes, Chelsea have also moved another piece on their increasingly complex loan chessboard. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful spell at River Plate, a move designed to free up an overseas loan slot. The expectation now is that he will head back out, with a temporary switch to another club – potentially in England – on the table.
