Ligue 1 Predictions Round 2: Lille Faces PSG's Challenge

The predictions duel is back for the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season. Editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle and sub-editor Bastien Cheval are trading blows again, scorecards in hand and egos on the line.

Seven days. That is all PSG have had to change the mood.

Last Friday, Luis Enrique’s side looked short of rhythm and sharpness, held by Stade Rennais and rescued only by a second-half brace from Ferran Torres. It was enough for a point, not enough to silence the doubts. A stuttering pre-season, cut short again, left rust on the legs and hesitation in the passing.

Now comes another trip, another contender, and far less margin for excuses. Lille at home. A northern cauldron. A proper test.

PSG travel without Ousmane Dembélé, a blow to their attacking unpredictability. Lille, though, have their own headache. Matias Fernandez-Pardo will not feature while his transfer saga rumbles on, and his absence strips Davide Ancelotti of a key piece in midfield. Ayoubb Bouaddi has already gone, a departure the club had long seen coming. In that sense, LOSC have already turned the page.

On the opening weekend, Lille barely had to break sweat to beat SCO Angers 2-0. Controlled, composed, efficient. Encouraging, yes, but this is different. This is Paris. This is a Champions League-chasing rival with something to prove.

For Ancelotti Jr., it is the biggest night of his young managerial career. Promising first steps, now a giant obstacle in front of him. One result here, good or bad, will shape the conversation around him for weeks.

Luke leans towards the heavyweights. Comfortable wins for Rennes and Monaco, a clean sheet for Lorient, and a tight home victory for Lyon. Auxerre and Paris FC, he feels, will grind out narrow, disciplined wins.

Bastien’s Predictions – Looking for a Fightback

Bastien tweaks the script. He sees goals in Monaco v Marseille, a draw in the headline southern clash, and a cagey stalemate between Auxerre and Angers. Nice, in his view, steal it away at Paris FC, while Brest and Lorient both squeeze out 1-0 home wins.

Two pundits, nine games, one season-long battle. Round 2 might look routine on paper, but nights like Lille v PSG have a habit of changing everything.
