Bournemouth's Europa League Fixtures: AC Milan and Real Sociedad Await

Bournemouth now know the scale of the task ahead. Marco Rose’s side have their full Europa League league-phase schedule mapped out – and it’s a draw that mixes glamour, long-haul journeys and awkward, under-the-radar tests.

Under Uefa’s new 36-club league format, the Cherries have been paired with eight different opponents, two from each seeding pot, with the usual restrictions in place: no more than two clubs from the same country and no meetings with teams from their own domestic league.

The headline? AC Milan are coming to the south coast.

Big nights at Dean Court

Bournemouth’s home slate is stacked with variety and pedigree. AC Milan, seven-time European champions, will visit in what promises to be the standout night of the league phase. Real European history under the lights.

They will also host Viktoria Plzen, seasoned campaigners in continental competition, Sturm Graz from Austria, and Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva, who have made a habit of unsettling bigger names in Europe.

Those four ties will go a long way to defining Bournemouth’s first steps in this revamped format. Milan bring the glamour, but Plzen, Sturm Graz and Hapoel Beer Sheva bring the kind of stubborn resilience that can turn a group campaign.

Testing trips on the road

The away schedule is no gentler. Bournemouth travel to Spain to face Real Sociedad, a club that has grown into a regular in European competition and plays with a clear identity and technical edge.

There is another Spanish assignment at Celta Vigo, where atmosphere and intensity can spike quickly if the hosts sense weakness.

The Cherries will also head to Prague to take on Sparta, one of Central Europe’s traditional heavyweights, and make the journey north to Norway to meet Lillestrom, where conditions and environment can be as much of a factor as the opposition.

How the format works

All 36 teams were seeded into four pots based on their results in Uefa competitions over the last five years, with pot one containing the highest-ranked clubs and pot four the lowest. Each side is drawn against two clubs from each pot, creating an eight-match league schedule.
