Juventus Faces Thuram Injury Concern as Surgery Looms

Khephren Thuram’s stop-start Juventus career has hit a serious early hurdle. The French midfielder has been left out of the squad for this evening’s Serie A clash with Parma and is now facing a key medical verdict on his troublesome knee.

Thuram has been battling patellofemoral syndrome since the end of last season, an issue that never truly settled across the summer. He spent most of pre-season working away from the main group and already sat out Juve’s opening league win against Frosinone.

Now he misses Parma at the Allianz Stadium as well. And this time, the absence feels heavier.

Italian outlets Sky Sport and Gazzetta report that Thuram will travel to France next week for a consultation with renowned knee specialist Bertrand Sonnery Cottet. The appointment will determine whether the 23-year-old must undergo surgery to fix the problem once and for all.

Sonnery Cottet is no stranger to Juventus players. He previously operated on Gleison Bremer for cruciate ligament and meniscus damage and handled Federico Gatti’s meniscus surgery in recent years. When Juventus send a player to him, it usually means the situation is serious and the club wants definitive answers.

Luciano Spalletti has not tried to downplay the concern. Speaking on Friday, the Juventus coach admitted he was “very worried” about Thuram’s condition, a stark assessment so early in the season for a player signed to anchor the midfield.

For now, Juventus must plan without him, unsure when he will next be available — or whether the next time they see him in training will be after a spell on the operating table.
