Jamal Musiala Undergoes Treatment for Neurological Dysfunction

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is undergoing treatment for a “neurological dysfunction” after collapsing for the second time in four days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season schedule.

The 23-year-old went down six minutes after coming off the bench in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly win at Heidenheim on Tuesday. He appeared dazed as medical staff rushed on, received on-pitch treatment and was then helped from the field.

It was a worrying repeat. On Saturday, during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig in Munich, Musiala had already collapsed, prompting immediate concern inside the club and among Germany fans who watched him re-establish himself at the 2026 World Cup.

Musiala explains diagnosis

Musiala chose to address the situation directly, posting a detailed message on Instagram to calm growing fears.

“I've been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction,” he wrote.

“These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance - but for me, they're currently just part of my everyday life.

“I'm receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”

The wording was deliberate: reassurance, not alarm. Musiala stressed both the temporary nature of the seizures and the fact they are being actively treated, underlining his confidence in the medical plan around him.

Bayern stand behind their midfielder

Inside the club, Bayern moved quickly to show that Musiala’s condition is known, monitored and being handled with care.

Speaking after the Heidenheim match, sporting director Max Eberl made it clear there would be transparency.

“We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said. “Jamal will speak out. He's in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower.”

The message was simple: no secrecy, no panic, and the player well enough to be back on his feet in the dressing room shortly after the incident.

A career already tested by setbacks

This is not the first serious interruption to Musiala’s young career.

He missed the first six months of last season after breaking his ankle at the 2025 Club World Cup, a major setback at a time when he was cementing his role for both Bayern and Germany. He fought his way back in the second half of the campaign and did enough to start three of Germany's four games at the 2026 World Cup, underlining his importance on the biggest stage.

Now comes another challenge, very different in nature but no less significant. The diagnosis offers clarity. The treatment offers a path forward.

How quickly Musiala returns to full, uninterrupted action will shape not only Bayern’s season, but also the next chapter of a career that already refuses to follow a straight line.
