Harry Kane Set to Negotiate New Deal with Bayern Munich
Harry Kane is ready to talk. And Bayern Munich will be all ears.
The England captain confirmed he is set to open negotiations with the Bundesliga champions over a new deal, with his current contract entering its final year.
Kane, now 33, signed a four-year agreement when he joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 for £86.4m. That deal runs down next summer. Both sides know the clock is ticking.
“We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday,” Kane said. “So I'm not sure exactly when, but they'll start this week, next week... we'll start those talks.”
No drama. No brinkmanship. Just a world-class striker and a superclub sounding each other out.
“Like I've said before, we're calm, I think they're calm with the situation,” he added. “Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there's only a year left. That's important. But both sides are relaxed, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some talks this week or next week.”
A ruthless first chapter in Germany
If Bayern needed reminding why these talks matter, last season did the job.
Kane delivered 61 goals in 51 games in all competitions as Vincent Kompany’s side completed a domestic double, lifting both the Bundesliga title and the German cup. He didn’t just adapt to German football; he bent it to his will.
Across three Bundesliga campaigns, his numbers are staggering: 98 goals in 94 league appearances and three straight Bundesliga Golden Boot awards. The move that was once billed as a gamble has turned into a relentless scoring machine at the heart of Bayern’s dominance.
World Cup history and Ballon d'Or noise
On the international stage, Kane’s status has only grown.
He struck six times for England at the 2026 World Cup, becoming his country’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with 14 goals in 18 matches. That record, layered on top of his club form, has pushed him firmly into the 2026 Ballon d'Or conversation.
“The Ballon d'Or is as big as it gets, from an individual point of view,” he said. “I know I had a great season last season, but the focus is on this new season.”
The individual acclaim can wait. That’s his message.
“The Ballon d'Or's not in my hands. I've done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances. It's now down to votes and other people and the media - stuff I can't control - so we'll see what happens.
“Obviously, it would be amazing if it was to happen. But ultimately, it's still two or three months away before that's decided so it's not something that's at the front of my mind right now.”
For now, the immediate questions lie closer to home. Bayern want their No 9 tied down. Kane sounds open to it. The negotiations are coming — and the next contract he signs could define the final stretch of one of modern football’s great goalscoring careers.
