Ivan Toney Charged with Assault Following Nightclub Incident
England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an incident at a London nightclub in Soho.
The charge, confirmed on July 31, relates to an event on Dec. 6, 2025. Toney is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Sept. 24, where the case will formally begin its path through the legal system.
A spokesperson for Toney said: "Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court." It is the clearest indication yet that the 28-year-old intends to contest the allegation and fight to protect a reputation built painstakingly over the past few seasons.
The timing is striking. Toney, now with Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, has only just come off the back of the biggest summer of his career. He forced his way into England’s World Cup squad, a reward for years of persistence and a goalscoring profile that has long intrigued national-team coaches.
His role in the tournament was limited but not insignificant. Toney came off the bench as a late substitute in the 2-1 semifinal defeat to Argentina, thrown on as England chased an equaliser in a frantic finish. His only start arrived in the third-place playoff against France, a wild 6-4 England win that underlined both his physical presence and his ability to occupy defenders at the highest level.
Those appearances took him to 10 senior caps, with one international goal to his name, a modest return on paper but a landmark for a player whose route to the top has rarely been straightforward.
Now, the narrative around Toney shifts again. From Brentford talisman to Saudi recruit, from World Cup squad member to defendant in a London courtroom. The next chapter in his career will not be written on grass, but under the glare of the legal process on Sept. 24.
