Ilia Topuria Calls Out Justin Gaethje Following UFC Defeat

After suffering his first career loss to Justin Gaethje in June, Ilia Topuria has broken his silence with a sharp accusation against the UFC lightweight champion. The fight, which took place at UFC Freedom 250, saw Topuria enter as the favorite but quickly lose momentum after a punishing left-right combo from Gaethje in the third round left him badly bloodied.

Despite medical advice suggesting the bout should end, referee Marc Goddard allowed the fight to continue due to concerns about Topuria's vision. Ultimately, Topuria's corner stopped the fight after further damage was inflicted, handing Gaethje a TKO victory in the main event.

Following the win, Gaethje celebrated his UFC lightweight title with a visit from then-USA President Donald Trump inside the Octagon, commemorating Trump's 80th birthday and America's 250th anniversary.

Topuria's Injuries and Return

Topuria left the fight with non-displaced fractures in both orbital bones, his right eye suffering the most. Such injuries raise concerns about vulnerability in future bouts, yet Topuria is already cleared to compete again and is eager to get back in the cage.

Social Media Confrontation

On social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Topuria made a bold statement after final medical tests confirmed his fitness to fight again. He wrote:

"Final medical tests done. I’m back. To all the clowns who’ve been talking s*** and counting me out this whole time, here I am. Now let’s see who’s got the balls. Thanks to everyone for the support.Next time I’ll make sure they check Justin’s gloves so he doesn’t put anything weird on them. See you soon."

This message contained a serious accusation implying Gaethje used something unusual on his gloves during their bout.

Gaethje responded quickly, dismissing the claim in a reply:

"94 days and the best you could come up with is a lame excuse. As terrible as your last performance. Do better, kid."

The champion further addressed the allegation in a video conversation with a fan on X, saying:

"People don't believe that. I've done that to everybody's face that I fought. Am I willing to [rematch him]? I just beat the s*** out of him, of course I would. That's not the way to [try and get a rematch]."

Future Prospects

Gaethje previously ruled out a rematch after their fight, and with this recent exchange, a second matchup seems unlikely. Meanwhile, Topuria appears focused on finding a new opponent to step back into the octagon against.
