Hull City Break Transfer Record for Olympiacos Keeper Konstantinos Tzolakis

Hull City have planted a flag in the Premier League ground before a ball has even been kicked. Newly promoted, but anything but timid, they have broken their transfer record to sign Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos on a five-year deal.

The fee remains officially undisclosed, yet the numbers around the move tell their own story. The deal is believed to be worth around £20m plus add-ons, a huge leap from the £13m Hull paid Tottenham for Ryan Mason back in 2016. For a club stepping back into the top flight, this is not a cautious toe in the water. It is a full-blooded dive.

Tzolakis arrives as a serial winner. Still only 23, he has spent his entire senior career with Olympiacos, amassing 131 appearances since his debut in 2020 and stacking up silverware at a rate that commands attention. Eight trophies in total. Four Greek Super League titles. And, crowning it all, the 2023-24 Uefa Conference League, a landmark European triumph for the Piraeus club.

That European run changed his profile. It also changed his career trajectory. A month after helping Olympiacos to continental glory, Tzolakis made his senior international debut for Greece against Malta. He has since collected nine caps, moving from promising youngster to genuine contender on the national stage.

Now comes the leap that defines careers: the Premier League.

"I am ready for a new chapter in my career," Tzolakis said, reflecting on his move after a spell in Greece that already reads like a veteran’s honours list. "With Olympiacos, I had a successful career with a Conference League title, championship and a cup, also European games and Champions League."

That is the backdrop. The challenge in front of him is very different.

"Hull City is something different because we are playing in the Premier League. We have to fight against top players, so it's a challenge for me."

The message is clear. Hull have not just signed a goalkeeper; they have signed a statement. A 23-year-old with European pedigree, international experience and the appetite to test himself against the sharpest forwards in the game.

For a club whose last record buy came in a very different era, this move signals a shift in scale and ambition. The Tigers are back among the elite, and they have chosen a young Greek goalkeeper as one of the pillars on which they intend to stand.
