The potential move underlines how sharply Elliott’s Liverpool trajectory has dipped.

Under Jurgen Klopp, the English midfielder was one of the bright sparks of the new generation, trusted regularly and often among the first names on the teamsheet. He looked embedded in Liverpool’s future.
