Haaland’s Viral Double Turns Internet Fame Into Matchday Spectacle

What started as a simple hairstyle choice has turned an online creator into Erling Haaland’s unofficial double – and now the joke is spilling out of social media and into a World Cup quarter-final in Miami.

Willman, whose braided hair triggered a wave of comparisons with the Norway striker, admitted to People that the past few days have felt unreal. Millions have watched and shared the clips. The internet did the rest.

“[It’s been] so surreal ... I never expected braiding my hair to turn into millions of people comparing me to Erling Haaland,” she said, describing how a routine styling decision suddenly became a global talking point.

The story kicked up another gear when Haaland himself joined in. The Manchester City forward commented on her video, turning a viral moment into something closer to a shared bit of football folklore.

“It’s been amazing to watch the internet have so much fun with it, and seeing Erling comment on my video made the whole thing feel even more unreal,” Willman added. “As a creator, you never know what’s going to resonate, so I’m just grateful people have embraced it and had fun along the way.”

Now the online joke has a real-world date and a real-world stage.

Willman revealed she will be in Miami, Florida on Saturday (local time) to watch Haaland’s Norway face England in the World Cup quarter-final, and she made no secret of her wish for the next step in this strange saga: she wants to meet her “twin”.

Haaland, speaking to the same publication, sounded equally amused by the possibility. “It would be pretty funny if our paths crossed in real life after all of this,” he said.

So the internet’s favourite lookalike is heading to the same city as the original. But she’s not going alone.

On the day of the match, Miami will host an Erling Haaland lookalike contest organised by Willman, turning the build-up into a tongue-in-cheek tribute act to Norway’s superstar. The winner gets tickets to the quarter-final.

On Instagram, she laid down the challenge.

“If you have ever been told you look like Haaland and are a Norway fan, you’re in for a surprise!” she wrote. “@kalshi is helping me host an Erling Haaland lookalike contest right before the game on Saturday for 2 FREE TICKETS TO THE GAME!

“Meet us at the location [in Miami], and bring your best Haaland moves! See you there and good luck!”

A World Cup knockout tie, a global goal machine, and a growing army of imitators converging on one city. The only question left is whether the original and his viral double finally share the same frame in Miami.
