Reports from the Mirror reveal that Manchester United faced a serious setback when Gavi declined a chance to join the Premier League side. The 22-year-old was considered an ideal candidate to bolster United’s midfield options for the upcoming season, with the club reportedly prepared to pay £35 million.

Despite the offer, Gavi has made it clear he plans to stay at Barcelona. This refusal adds to the frustration among United fans, especially after spending about £85 million on Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. With the transfer window closing soon, United will need to explore other midfield targets.

Trust in Flick Keeps Gavi at Barcelona

Gavi joined Barcelona's youth setup at age 11 and has since made 119 league appearances since debuting in 2021. The midfielder was part of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad, although he remained an unused substitute during their 1-0 victory over Argentina in New York.

Even with the arrival of Rodri at Barcelona, Gavi is seen as a cornerstone under coach Hansi Flick. The German manager played a vital role in helping him regain form following a serious knee injury that kept him out for five months last season. "I have suffered a lot, unfortunately, in these last two years. It’s football," Gavi shared about his injury struggles. "They were serious injuries and you have to be mentally strong, and I have been. It’s a strong point of mine. I’m at this level because of the mentality I have. It is not easy to play at this pace, coming from two serious injuries. I’ve done it and I’m proud. Luckily, the coach trusts me a lot. He’s like a father to me. I am very grateful to him. It’s not easy to get to play after this injury. He knows about my talent and mentality and that it’s important for the team. He blindly trusts me."

Looking forward, Barcelona intends to start contract discussions soon to secure Gavi beyond his current deal that runs until 2030. Meanwhile, Manchester United must shift focus to other midfield options as the deadline approaches.
