Galatasaray Targets Rafael Leao as Milan Lowers Demands

Galatasaray have circled back to Rafael Leao, sensing an opening in a transfer saga that has dragged on without a decisive bidder for AC Milan’s star forward.

Multiple outlets in Italy and Turkiye report that the Istanbul giants are back in detailed talks with Milan over the Portuguese international. For now, though, the negotiations remain verbal – no official, written offer has landed on the Rossoneri’s desk.

Milan’s position has shifted. The club had been holding out for around €50m plus €10m in add-ons, but the market never met that valuation. No club stepped forward ready to match those numbers, and that stance has started to give way. The asking price is now understood to be dropping towards a figure below €50m plus bonuses, a threshold that immediately breathes life into fresh discussions.

Galatasaray’s renewed push for Leao comes straight after a setback elsewhere. Their €45m bid for Gabriel Martinelli was rejected by Arsenal, who also made it clear the Brazilian had no intention of moving to Istanbul. With that door slammed shut, attention swung back to San Siro and to a winger whose future has been in limbo for months.

Leao has drawn plenty of glances but no decisive move. Milan have held conversations with Benfica, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, yet none of those suitors advanced to the stage of formal bids. The distance between what Milan demanded and what the clubs were prepared to pay remained too wide, and talks stalled before they could harden into concrete proposals.

The dynamic is different now. As the price edges down, Galatasaray sense a chance to land a marquee name, while Milan see a realistic path to cashing in on a player who does not plan to stay long term.

Leao and Milan had been waiting for a heavyweight from one of Europe’s top five leagues to strike once his availability became clear. That call never came. Interest never turned into a serious move, leaving both player and club looking elsewhere for a solution.

His contract at San Siro runs until June 2028, but there is no appetite on Leao’s side to extend. With no renewal on the horizon and the clock on his peak years ticking, a sale this summer now looms less like a possibility and more like an inevitability.

The question is no longer whether Milan will sell Rafael Leao – it is who will finally put their money where their interest is.
