Curtis Jones Leaves Liverpool for Inter Milan's English Revolution
Curtis Jones has drawn a line under a lifetime at Liverpool and thrown himself into Inter Milan’s new English experiment.
The 25-year-old midfielder has signed with the Italian champions until 2031, becoming the third Englishman to arrive at San Siro in the space of a few weeks, following right-back Djed Spence and centre-back John Stones.
Inter did not hide the significance of the move.
“After a lifetime with Liverpool, the midfielder leaves his home country for the first time, joining fellow England internationals John Stones and Djed Spence and becoming the sixth Englishman in Inter's history,” the club announced, calling it “a new, incredible adventure — one he can approach with the confidence that has accompanied him throughout his life.”
Italian media report that Inter will pay around 35 million euros ($40.8 million) for the Liverpool academy product, a player many on Merseyside had watched grow from boy to first-teamer.
For Jones, the break is emotional and absolute.
“After 16 years, it's time to say goodbye,” he wrote on Instagram, confirming his departure from Anfield. “I came here as a kid with a dream of playing for Liverpool and I've been lucky enough to actually live that dream. Liverpool will be a massive part of me.”
He leaves behind the only club he has ever known, stepping out of his home city and his home league for the first time to test himself at the heart of the Serie A champions’ midfield.
Inter’s English influx
Jones’ arrival continues a striking shift in Inter’s recruitment. Until this year, only three English players had ever appeared for the club in its 118-year history. By the end of this summer window, that number has doubled.
Spence has also committed to a contract running until 2031, while Stones joined on a free after his deal with Manchester City expired, adding title-winning experience and leadership to Simone Inzaghi’s defence.
Inter open their Serie A campaign against Monza on Saturday. Jones will not just be another signing; he walks into a dressing room where English voices are suddenly part of the soundtrack at San Siro.
