Cole Palmer's Future: Gallas Predicts Manchester United Move

Cole Palmer’s Manchester United links refuse to die down, and William Gallas is convinced he knows how this story ends.

The former Chelsea defender believes Palmer will eventually swap Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford – just not yet.

Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 for £42.5 million, has already become the centrepiece of the London club’s attack. But Gallas is looking beyond the here and now.

“I don’t think Cole Palmer will go right now. I don’t think it’s time to go right now,” the ex-France international told iPredicta.

“He will definitely go to Manchester United in the future if he’s a big fan, if he’s got a dream to play for Man United, he will definitely go there, but right now I don’t think so.

“I think he needs to have one more big season as he did two years ago, before he got his injury problem, then he might move.”

It is a bold claim, but it feeds into a narrative that has followed Palmer for months.

Palmer spent 13 years at Manchester City, rising through the academy and into the first team, yet he has never hidden the fact he grew up a Manchester United supporter.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced suggesting the England international was homesick in London and that United were ready to test Chelsea’s resolve. The idea of a boyhood United fan, born in Manchester, starring at Stamford Bridge and then returning north as a marquee signing, wrote itself.

Palmer, though, shut it down. He publicly denied being homesick and dismissed the talk of an imminent United switch. For now, at least, his focus remains on Chelsea.

That hasn’t stopped others from plotting his future for him. Gallas’ view is clear: one more standout season in blue, then the door to Old Trafford swings open.

Santos arrives, Palmer sends his blessing

While Palmer’s own future continues to be debated, one of his former Chelsea teammates has already made the move to Manchester.

Andrey Santos has signed a five-year deal with United, who will pay an initial £48 million plus £2 million in add-ons to Chelsea. The Brazilian midfielder wanted a fresh start and, crucially, more minutes.

Santos spoke of his excitement after sealing the transfer – and revealed that Palmer was quick to get in touch once the deal was done.

“I'm so excited to be here,” Santos said. “So pleased. I got a message from Cole [Palmer], he sent a message because he was born here [Manchester], so he knows everything here.

“He said all the best for you, for your career, you deserve this, a lot of things. So I'm so excited to be here in Manchester with my new teammates.”

Palmer, the Manchester-born playmaker now carrying Chelsea’s hopes, wishing luck to a friend embarking on life at Old Trafford. For Gallas, it feels like a glimpse of the future.
