Milan, Napoli and Bournemouth circle as Embolo becomes summer’s next striking domino

Breel Embolo has re-emerged on Serie A’s radar, and this time Milan are at the front of the queue.

The Swiss striker, currently at Rennes and under contract until 2029, has been identified by the Rossoneri as a serious option for Rúben Amorim’s new-look attack. As reported by calciomercato.com, Milan have already opened talks with the player’s agent to understand the margins of a deal – both in terms of cost and feasibility.

Rennes, for now, remain untouched. There has been no direct contact with the Ligue 1 club, who value Embolo at around €15m. That price, in today’s market, is hardly prohibitive for a player who shone at the recent World Cup and has already made clear he would welcome a return to Italy.

He will not be short of offers.

A striker in demand

Embolo’s name has been written on Serie A notebooks for years. Juventus and Roma have both tracked him in the past, and that long-standing admiration has not gone away. Now, though, it is Milan and Napoli who have moved him back to the top of their lists.

Napoli, under Massimiliano Allegri, are also keeping him firmly in view. The club see Embolo as one of the potential pieces in their attacking rebuild, while Bournemouth have entered the conversation from the Premier League. England, significantly, is understood to be a destination the player would welcome.

So the race is real. The timing, as ever in the transfer market, is everything.

Milan and Napoli must clear the path

For the Italian clubs, the road to Embolo runs straight through their existing forwards.

Milan have set their stance on Rafael Leão: no sale unless an offer reaches €50m. So far, that proposal has not arrived. Until it does, the club’s room to manoeuvre at centre-forward remains tight, even if the internal planning continues in the background.

Napoli face a similar equation, but with different names. Sporting director Giovanni Manna is working to find a new club for Romelu Lukaku, whose future must be resolved before the Partenopei can fully commit to a new striker. Only once that situation is unlocked can Napoli realistically move on Embolo.

The pressure is building, but the trigger has not yet been pulled.

The Giménez factor

Milan, though, have another lever they could pull.

Santiago Giménez is among the players who could leave the club, and his departure would immediately change the picture. Should an offer arrive that convinces Milan to cash in, the Rossoneri could accelerate for Embolo regardless of what happens with Leão.

That scenario would allow Amorim to reshape his frontline without waiting on a major sale, and it would turn an “early-stage idea” into an active pursuit almost overnight.

For now, Embolo remains a name on multiple lists, a solution waiting for the first domino to fall. Once one of those attacking pieces moves – Leão, Lukaku, or Giménez – the chase for the Switzerland international is likely to move from quiet conversations to a full-scale battle across Italy and the Premier League.
