Benjamin Sesko Sees Positives After Painful Late Draw With Everton

Sesko Reflects on Late Equaliser Against Everton

Benjamin Sesko expressed disappointment after Manchester United conceded a stoppage-time equaliser against Everton, despite scoring his first goal of the season. The Slovenian striker came off the bench at Hill Dickinson Stadium and gave United the lead with a powerful header, but Everton struck back in the 96th minute to secure a 2-2 draw.

Return to Scoring Form

The 23-year-old forward broke his scoring drought shortly after entering the match as a substitute. He connected with a precise cross from Luke Shaw and headed the ball past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the 88th minute, giving United hope of victory. Unfortunately, Ainsley Maitland-Niles’s stunning strike deep into stoppage time denied them all three points.

Frustration at Last-Minute Concession

Although happy to be back on the scoresheet, Sesko showed his frustration over the team losing a winning position so late in the game. Speaking to MUTV, he said:

"We’re very disappointed, of course, because we were so close and yet so far. To concede like that in the last minute is painful for everyone. Everyone was giving everything to try and win the game. Every single person here wants that. When a last shot decides it, it hurts a lot."

Encouraged by Progress

This goal marked an important step forward for Sesko after injury issues interrupted much of his preseason. He tried to focus on the positives from his performance and the team's effort, adding:

"For me, scoring feels great, especially for a club like this. Providing goals and points is my job at the end of the day. It’s nice to be back with the team and playing games again. Of course, I wish we had won today, but we can’t change that. It’s important to stay positive even when things don’t go our way, see the game in a good light, and focus on improving for the next match."

Looking Ahead to Europe

Sesko has been used mostly as a substitute recently, appearing off the bench against Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Everton. As he nears full fitness, the striker aims to earn a starting role. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick's squad must move past this domestic setback quickly, as they prepare for European action. Manchester United will host Azerbaijani champions Sabah FK at Old Trafford on Thursday to begin their Champions League campaign.
