Barcelona's Formal Offer for Julian Alvarez Revealed

Barcelona have put their cards on the table for Julian Alvarez – and they’re no longer pretending otherwise.

Speaking after the Joan Gamper Trophy, club vice-president Rafael Yuste admitted on TV3 that Barça have made a formal offer for the Atletico Madrid forward. He stopped there. No figures, no contract details, no hint of how close – or how far – a deal might be.

The interest is no secret. Alvarez has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, while Atletico’s stance has been just as clear: the Argentine is not for sale. Reports in Spain have suggested the player wants to leave, yet the Madrid club are holding the line as the window ticks on.

Yuste chose his words carefully, aware of the tension that can flare when one La Liga giant circles another’s striker.

“I don’t like to talk about players who aren’t ours. We’ve had a very good relationship with Miguel Ángel Gil and President Cerezo for years and years, and so these are things that I would say are part and parcel of football.

“We must maintain decorum and let common sense prevail,” he said, quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

The message was deliberate: respect first, negotiations second. Yuste repeatedly avoided going into detail on Alvarez, stressing that Barcelona have to be especially cautious when speaking in public about a player still under contract at Atletico Madrid. The relationship between the clubs, he reminded, matters.

What he did not clear up is whether the bid currently on the table is still active or if Barcelona are readying a new approach. That remained in the shadows.

Then came the key admission.

“We made an offer and that’s that. We must focus entirely on what Hansi said recently: that we have a match on Sunday and we have to go out and win it.

“There are 38 matches in La Liga and each one is worth three points, so we’re fully focused on trying to secure our first win,” Yuste added.

The line was classic pre-season deflection: yes, the offer exists, but the priority, at least publicly, is the pitch. With Hansi Flick starting his first league campaign in charge, the club hierarchy are keen to project calm around a squad still being shaped.

Behind that calm, the market remains very much alive.

Yuste underlined that Barcelona are not closing the door on further signings before the window shuts. He highlighted the work of the sporting department, led by Deco, after the deal to bring in Rodri, and name-checked Bojan and Alejandro Echeverría as key figures in the recruitment push.

“We have a great technical team, with Deco, Bojan and Alejandro Echeverría, who is also doing an exceptional job, and the transfer window is still open.”

The message is clear enough: Barcelona have already moved for Julian Alvarez, they are keeping relations with Atletico Madrid as smooth as possible, and they are prepared to act again if the right opening appears.
