Asencio Faces Disciplinary Action After DUI Conviction

Real Madrid defender Asencio has stepped out of one legal battle and straight into another storm of his own making.

Recently cleared of charges relating to the non-consensual distribution of an explicit video, the 23-year-old now finds himself under fresh internal scrutiny at the Santiago Bernabeu. This time, the club has moved swiftly after his conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol, a serious traffic offence that brought an eight-month driving ban and a €14,400 fine.

Those words carried the weight of a warning. The message was simple: the shirt does not come off when the training session ends.

The club has already launched formal internal disciplinary proceedings in response to the conviction. Behind closed doors, the hierarchy will now decide how heavily to sanction a player who has yet to kick a ball for them this season.

Just as the criticism peaked, Mourinho shifted the focus to a different version of Asencio – the one he sees every day at Valdebebas.

"I spoke with him when I arrived," Mourinho revealed. "We talked about things from the past. Since I arrived, I haven’t spoken about situations outside Valdebebas because in Valdebebas, he is an exemplary professional.

"When he was well, no one trained more or better than him. Now that he has been injured for weeks, he is the first to arrive, the last to leave, showing extreme dedication to his recovery."

It is a striking contrast. Away from the pitch, controversy and poor decisions. Inside the training ground, commitment and discipline.

For now, Asencio remains sidelined, locked into a physical recovery programme as he battles a persistent muscle problem. He has not featured for Real Madrid at all this season, his campaign stuck on pause while the team moves on without him.

The disciplinary process will run its course. The punishment for his latest offence will come. But the real sentence may be sporting, not legal.
