Arsenal Target Liverpool Starlet Vincent Joseph

Arsenal are set to prise one of Liverpool’s most highly regarded young forwards out of Anfield, with England youth international Vincent Joseph having reached an agreement to join the Premier League champions.

The Athletic reports that Arsenal have struck a deal with the 16-year-old striker, leaving the two clubs to thrash out a compensation package. The move underlines Mikel Arteta’s determination to keep feeding talent into the system, not just at first-team level but deep into the academy.

Champions still building

Arsenal head into the new campaign as defending Premier League champions, yet there is no sense of easing off. Investment has continued across the club’s structure, and the recruitment drive is now cutting into a direct domestic rival’s youth set-up.

Joseph, who has already made his mark on the international stage, becomes the latest target. Arsenal have agreed terms with the teenager, but because of his age, Liverpool are entitled to compensation rather than a traditional transfer fee.

If the clubs cannot settle on a figure, the matter will go to a tribunal, as is standard when a player under 24 moves before signing a first professional contract, or shortly after one expires.

In that case, the Professional Football Compensation Committee would set the amount. The panel would look at Joseph’s age, his playing record so far, the time he has spent at Liverpool, the status of both clubs and the terms each side put on the table for him.

Liverpool reshape while losing a prospect

The move comes in a summer of change at Liverpool. Andoni Iraola has already begun reshaping his squad as he tries to close the gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds have added Spanish winger Victor Munoz and French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, and are exploring a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. While the senior squad is being refreshed, one of the brightest prospects from the academy is now on his way out.

Joseph’s numbers at youth level are striking. He has scored eight goals in nine appearances for England’s under-16s and has already stepped up to feature for Liverpool’s under-18s in the Premier League.

Yet he did not sign scholarship terms at Anfield this summer after his schoolboy registration expired, opening the door for a move. That hesitation has allowed Arsenal to step in and, barring a breakdown in negotiations over compensation, pull a prolific young England striker into the champions’ pathway.

If the tribunal is needed, its verdict will do more than just set a price. It will put a value on how much a goal-hungry 16-year-old, already trading in international goals, is worth in a title-winner’s long-term plan.
