Arsenal Signs Liverpool Teen Star Vincent Joseph for Academy

Arsenal have struck an agreement with highly rated Liverpool forward Vincent Joseph, moving to prise one of the standout teenage strikers in the country out of Anfield and into their academy.

The 16-year-old has agreed to join the Gunners this summer, with The Athletic reporting that only a compensation figure now stands between the clubs. Talks are under way to settle the fee; if they fail to find common ground, a tribunal will step in and set the amount, as required for players under 24.

Joseph is officially out of contract at Liverpool, but his age means the Merseyside club are still entitled to compensation for his development.

A prolific start

Joseph only broke into u18 Premier League football last season, but he wasted no time making an impression. Two games. Three goals. A brief glimpse, but enough to underline why England’s youth setup already trusts him.

For England u16s, his numbers are even sharper. Eight goals in nine appearances across the 2025/26 campaign have pushed his name firmly onto the radar of top academies. Arsenal have moved decisively.

Liverpool offered him fresh terms, yet the pathway laid out at Anfield wasn’t enough to convince him to stay. Joseph has chosen a different route, and all roads now point to north London.

Arsenal’s academy reset in attack

This is not a one-off raid. Arsenal have been actively searching for young centre-forwards across recent windows, and they know what it feels like to lose out. Last year, they watched Will Wright pick Liverpool over them.

This summer tells a different story.

They have already agreed terms with Crystal Palace striker Mylo Bernard and now with Joseph from Liverpool, reshaping the attacking core of their youth ranks. Both are set to arrive as free agents, subject to compensation.

The recruitment drive doesn’t stop there. Arsenal have brought in Elijah Upson from Tottenham Hotspur and are on the verge of completing a deal for Axel Donczew from Cardiff City. Donczew is the only one of the quartet still under contract at his previous club, another sign that Arsenal are ready to move quickly when negotiations stall elsewhere in the Premier League.

It is a clear strategy: identify contract stand-offs at rival academies, step in, and offer an alternative pathway.

Now the paperwork has to catch up with the ambition. Arsenal still need to finalise and announce the moves for Joseph, Bernard and Donczew.

Once they do, their academy attack will look very different – and the battle for the next great No 9 will have a distinctly red-and-white backdrop.
