Arsenal Targets Liverpool Prospect Vincent Joseph for Academy

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of highly rated Liverpool youngster Vincent Joseph, underlining a determined push to stock their academy with some of the country’s most coveted teenagers.

An agreement is already in place between Arsenal and the England youth international, according to The Athletic, after Joseph chose not to sign scholarship terms at Anfield this summer when his schoolboy registration expired.

The 16-year-old striker is now on course to swap Merseyside for north London, with the clubs locked in talks over a compensation package. Arsenal want him, Liverpool want fair value, and the negotiations reflect that.

Because Joseph is under 24 and never signed a professional contract at Liverpool, any failure to reach a settlement will send the case to a tribunal to set the fee. For a player still years away from senior football, the process is complex. The interest around him is not.

Joseph has been prolific for England at youth level, scoring eight goals in nine appearances for the under-16s. He also stepped up for Liverpool in the under-18 Premier League last season, finding the net three times in just two games. Those numbers, in such limited minutes, explain why Arsenal have moved quickly.

This is not a one-off raid. It fits a clear pattern.

Arsenal have already beaten Liverpool in the race to sign teenage goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney, another statement move in the academy market. The Gunners see the youth system as a battleground, and they are intent on winning it.

“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” he told the Belfast Telegraph. “When he’s 17, he will sign a professional contract. It’s done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”

Blayney’s father, Alan, has already laid out the roadmap for his son’s future at the club. Speaking earlier in the summer, he confirmed that all the key details are in place.

The plan is for Blayney to link up with Arsenal this summer, sign a pre-contract, and then move onto professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027. It is long-term squad building, mapped out years in advance.

And Arsenal are not stopping there.

They are also set to complete the signing of Cardiff City youngster Axel Donczew, another standout talent at youth level. Donczew made history in October when he became Cardiff’s youngest ever first-team player, debuting in the EFL Trophy against Newport County at just 15 years and 234 days.

One teenager from Liverpool, one from Cardiff, one already secured ahead of Liverpool. Arsenal’s senior squad may dominate the headlines, but the real arms race is happening in the academy – and the Gunners are pushing hard to be out in front.
