Madrid will host its sixth European Cup final overall, trailing only London for the most finals hosted. The Estadio Santiago Bernabéu previously hosted finals in 1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010.
Date and Significance of the Final
The final will conclude the 72nd season of Europe’s top club competition and the 35th since it was renamed the UEFA Champions League.
Match Format and Viewing
If the match is tied after regular time, two 15-minute periods of extra time will be played. Should the deadlock persist, the winner will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.
Broadcast details will be shared closer to the event date.
About Estadio Metropolitano
The stadium replaced Atlético de Madrid’s former home, Vicente Calderón, and honors the original Estadio Metropolitano where the team played until 1966. It opened on 16 September 2017 with Atlético facing Málaga, and Antoine Griezmann scored the first goal there in a 1-0 win.
