Yan Diomande: Leipzig's €130m Transfer Standoff
The queue for Yan Diomande is getting longer. The price is getting higher.
And RB Leipzig are in no mood to sell.
City and Real circle – but Leipzig don’t blink
Manchester City have now stepped firmly into the race. According to Sky, last season’s Premier League runners-up have informed Leipzig they are prepared to go to a total package of 100 million euros for Diomande, including bonus payments. No written offer yet, just a clear verbal signal.
Leipzig’s response? Thanks, but no.
From the perspective of last season’s Bundesliga third-placed side, 100 million euros is not enough to even start a real conversation. They see Diomande as a cornerstone, not a cash-out.
Real Madrid have also moved from admiration to action. As reported by The Athletic, the Spanish giants have contacted Leipzig and spoken directly with the club’s decision-makers about the 19-year-old. The interest is no longer speculative; Real are actively working on bringing him to the Bernabeu.
Sky go a step further: they report Real have already lodged a first formal bid — 90 million euros as a base fee, plus 10 million euros in bonuses. Again, a 100 million euro package. Again, Leipzig are said to have declined, politely but firmly.
The message is consistent: Diomande is not leaving on the cheap.
Madrid’s attack in flux
There is a potential trigger that could change the tone in Madrid. If Brahim Diaz leaves the club, Real’s pursuit of Diomande could accelerate sharply.
The Morocco international is considered a candidate for sale. His departure would open up not just a squad place, but also salary space and a clear sporting argument for a new attacking signing. In that scenario, Diomande becomes less of a luxury and more of a direct replacement — a high-class option to refresh the front line.
If Real decide he is the man to reshape that role, the bids will not stop at 100 million.
Leipzig dig in after one spectacular year
Leipzig’s stance is rooted in simple logic: they have no sporting reason to sell.
Diomande only arrived last summer from CD Leganes for a fee of 20 million euros. In his first Bundesliga season, he exploded. Across all competitions, the Ivory Coast international delivered 15 goals and 11 assists in 46 appearances — elite production for a teenager adapting to a new league and a new level.
On the biggest stage, his rise continued. At the World Cup, Diomande forced his way into Ivory Coast’s starting XI and became a regular. He finished the tournament with one assist in four matches before the Ivorians fell narrowly in the round of 32, losing 2-1 to Norway and Erling Haaland.
Leipzig see those numbers and that trajectory and draw a clear conclusion: this is a player to build around, not to cash in on after 12 months.
His contract reflects that view. Diomande is tied to Leipzig until 2030, giving the club maximum leverage. They are understood to be keen on offering him a new deal on improved terms, both to reward his impact and to strengthen their hand in any future negotiations.
Liverpool and PSG also pushed back
Leipzig’s resistance is not new. Liverpool have already discovered how hard it is to move the Saxony club.
The Bundesliga side are said to have rejected an offer from Liverpool worth around 100 million euros in total, mirroring the figures now being mentioned for Real and City. Same ballpark, same outcome. Not enough.
For a long time, Paris Saint-Germain were viewed as the favourites to win the race for Diomande. The Champions League winners hold major interest and had been considered the leading contenders for his signature, especially given their financial muscle and need for attacking flair.
Even they have paused at Leipzig’s demands. PSG have not yet shown a willingness to climb to the level the Germans are hinting at.
And that level is becoming clearer: anyone serious about signing Diomande this summer will probably need to put something in the region of 130 million euros on the table.
A tug-of-war with no obvious winner yet
So the picture is set: Manchester City, Real Madrid, Liverpool and PSG all admire the same dribble-strong, goal-dangerous 19-year-old. All know his contract runs to 2030. All know Leipzig have already turned down offers around 100 million euros.
If Real truly decide to go all-in, if City turn their verbal intent into a formal bid, if PSG step back into the lead with a bigger number, the market for Diomande could ignite in an instant.
For now, Leipzig hold their ground, armed with a long contract, a breakout season and a player who has already shown he belongs at the top level.
The question is no longer who wants Yan Diomande. It is who is willing to cross the 130 million euro line to prise him away.
