Troy Parrott Shines in Real Betis Victory Over Getafe

Troy Parrott marked his return to Real Betis’ starting XI with a sharp, inventive display as Manuel Pellegrini’s side edged past Getafe 1-0 in Seville to climb to third in La Liga.

Parrott nearly stuns Soria early

Back in from the start after watching Monday’s 2-1 win at Villarreal from the bench, the 24-year-old Irishman wasted no time making an impression.

Inside five minutes, he almost produced a goal-of-the-season contender. Punishing a loose Getafe pass on halfway, Parrott looked up and went for the audacious lob from distance. David Soria scrambled, backpedalled, and just about clawed the ball away with a fingertip at full stretch. The Betis crowd rose, sensing a striker brimming with confidence.

Betis controlled the tempo from there. Getafe, sitting 15th at kick-off, retreated into their shape and tried to suffocate space. The hosts still carved out chances, with Antony twice lashing efforts over the bar when well placed.

Betis break through, Parrott pulls the strings

The pressure finally told on the stroke of half-time, and Parrott was at the heart of it.

Betis sprang forward from their own half, Abde Ezzalzouli driving into midfield before sliding the ball wide to Antony charging up the flank. Parrott drifted into the central pocket, took the return pass on the edge of the box and, with one touch and a glance, swept it back across goal into Abde’s path. The winger did the rest, drilling low past Soria for 1-0 on 45 minutes.

Changes, tension, and a narrow escape

Getafe responded after the break by dropping even deeper, inviting Betis to try and pick the lock again. The home side pushed, but the second goal refused to come. Half-chances came and went; frustration grew.

Just past the hour, Pellegrini moved to refresh his attack. Parrott, Isco and Abde all made way midway through the second half as the Chilean coach sought fresh legs and new angles in the final third.

Betis couldn’t kill it off, and the game tightened. Getafe finally stepped forward in the closing stages, launching a late surge that had the home support on edge. Crosses flew into the box, set pieces piled up, but Betis held firm through to the final whistle.

Betis rise, Parrott’s influence grows

The 1-0 victory lifts Betis to third place on 15 points, level with Real Madrid and behind only on goal difference. Barcelona, perfect so far with six wins from six, sit three points clear at the top.

For Parrott, this was another important marker in Spain. A fortnight ago he came off the bench at Estadio La Cartuja to score the winner against Real Madrid, handing José Mourinho’s side their first defeat of the season. Now he has followed that up with a decisive assist and another influential performance from the start.

Betis are climbing. Parrott is growing into his role. The question now is how far this partnership can take them in a title race that suddenly looks very real.
