Trezeguet Out for Four Weeks with Hamstring Injury

Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” has suffered a torn hamstring and will be sidelined for four weeks, Saudi club Al-Riyadh announced on Wednesday via their official account on X.

The Egyptian international sustained the injury during Al-Riyadh’s clash with Al-Khaleej on Monday in the sixth round of the Saudi Roshn League. His night ended early and painfully: he went down, tried to continue, then left the pitch in tears in the 13th minute.

Medical examinations later confirmed the worst for club and country. The diagnosis: a hamstring tear. The decision: Trezeguet will return to Cairo to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of Egypt’s national team medical staff.

Impact on Egypt

For Hossam Hassan, it is a major setback.

The timing could hardly be worse for Egypt. Trezeguet is now set to miss the national team camp scheduled to start on 17 September, which rules him out of the opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

  • The Pharaohs begin their campaign at home, hosting Angola on Friday 25 September at Cairo Stadium,
  • before flying to Juba to face South Sudan on Tuesday 29 September.

A former Aston Villa winger, Trezeguet has long been one of Egypt’s most trusted attacking weapons, valued for his experience and consistency on the international stage. Losing that blend of work rate, goals, and big-game know-how forces Hossam Hassan to reshuffle his plans at the very start of a new qualifying road.
