BBC Sport report that talks have already been held with Crystal Palace, who are thought to want at least £60million for the centre-back. Chelsea’s own valuation of Lacroix is said to sit below £55million, so this one has room to run.

With plenty of outgoings expected at Stamford Bridge, the back line looks set for a serious reshaping.

Villa rip up their full-back plans

Aston Villa’s summer has been relentless, and they are not easing off.

Villa have also held talks over Alejandro Garnacho with Chelsea and Nicolas Jackson. The message is clear: they want direct, goal-hungry wide players, and they want them quickly.

Chelsea land Rogers, Roma push for Summerville

Chelsea, meanwhile, have already struck a major blow in the domestic market. Morgan Rogers completed his medical yesterday ahead of a huge £117million move from Aston Villa. The 23-year-old has agreed a six-year deal, another long-term commitment in line with Chelsea’s recent strategy.

PSG dig in over Barcola
