Tottenham's Summer Rebuild Begins with Senesi Signing

Tottenham have survived. Barely. Now the scramble to make sure they never flirt with the drop like that again has begun in earnest.

Roberto De Zerbi walked away from the final day more relieved than triumphant, but the mood around the club has already shifted from anxiety to urgency. Spurs are pushing hard to land three first‑team signings in quick succession, with the backline and midfield at the heart of the rebuild.

Senesi first across the line

The first domino has effectively fallen. Fabrizio Romano has delivered his trademark “Here We Go” on Marcos Senesi, with the Bournemouth defender set to join Spurs once the formalities are complete.

The Argentine had long been lined up as a target, with an agreement understood to be contingent on Tottenham staying in the Premier League. Survival secured, the plan is now in motion. Senesi is expected to arrive on a free transfer, a shrewd piece of business for a club that needs both numbers and know‑how in defence.

De Zerbi has been pushing for a more reliable, streetwise backline. Senesi, hardened by Premier League battles and comfortable playing out from the back, fits that brief. And he is unlikely to be the only reinforcement.

Robertson reunion back on the table

TEAMtalk report that Spurs are also moving to complete another Bosman deal, this time for Andrew Robertson, who has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract.

Tottenham came close to landing the Scotland captain in January before Liverpool pulled the plug, but the interest never cooled. Like Senesi, Robertson is said to have had a summer agreement lined up that hinged on Spurs remaining in the top flight.

With that box ticked, Tottenham are now pushing to finalise the move. This is not a signing for potential; it is a signing for presence. Robertson would bring years of title‑race and Champions League experience into a dressing room that has looked short of leaders when the pressure has risen.

De Zerbi wants an “experienced head” in his defensive unit. Between Senesi and Robertson, he would suddenly have two. Both are proven at this level, both comfortable in high‑intensity systems, both capable of raising standards on and off the pitch. For a club with ambitions of climbing back into the Champions League conversation — or, at the very least, re‑establishing themselves as a permanent fixture in Europe — that experience is priceless.

Palhinha pursuit tests Tottenham’s resolve

The third piece of the puzzle is more complicated. Tottenham’s interest in Joao Palhinha is no secret, but this is a deal that has already tested nerves behind the scenes.

TEAMtalk note that the midfielder is being linked with three of Portugal’s biggest clubs, with suggestions he could be tempted by a return home for family reasons. Those whispers have created tension around the negotiations, yet Spurs remain confident they can put a deal together.

Palhinha would give De Zerbi exactly what his midfield lacked for long stretches of the season: bite, control, and a reliable shield in front of the defence. His arrival, alongside Senesi and Robertson, would dramatically change the feel of Tottenham’s spine — from fragile and frantic to hardened and combative.

The pressure is now on the club hierarchy to turn intent into signatures. Senesi is effectively done. Robertson is within reach. Palhinha is the battle still to be won.

Tottenham escaped once. The way they handle these three deals will tell whether this summer is about mere survival — or the first serious step back towards the sharp end of the Premier League.
