Tottenham Break Transfer Record to Sign Alice Sombath from Lyon

Tottenham have made their statement signing of the summer, breaking their transfer record to prise France international defender Alice Sombath away from Lyon.

The 22-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee, but it eclipses the figure Spurs are believed to have paid for Norway midfielder Signe Gaupset – around £375,000 – last year. "I want to do my best here at Tottenham. I think the league is very competitive, every game is tough and that's what I'm most excited about," Sombath said as the move was confirmed.

"I saw that Spurs had a very good season last year. My qualities can bring something to the team, even though I know they already have a lot."
