Tottenham's Late-Window Attack Plans: Savinho, Gakpo, and Neto
Tottenham have drawn up a clear pecking order for their late-window attacking push – and a Chelsea winger sits some way down it.
Roberto De Zerbi moved quickly to reshape midfield and defence earlier in the summer. The focus then swung to the forward line, with the Spurs boss making it clear he wanted two or three fresh attacking options before the deadline. One of those is all but locked in.
Spurs are set to pay a total of £85million to Manchester City for winger Savinho, a deal that underlines just how aggressively they are moving to upgrade the wide areas. He has been viewed as a headline target for weeks, and now the hierarchy around him is coming into sharp focus.
Savinho top, Gakpo next, Neto waiting
Speaking to Football Insider, journalist Pete O’Rourke laid out Tottenham’s current thinking on their attacking shortlist.
“Savinho is their number one target for that wide attacking position, he is the priority and they’re working hard to reach an agreement with Man City over that one,” he said.
Behind the Brazilian, Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo is described as “high on that list”. Both he and Savinho sit ahead of Pedro Neto in Spurs’ internal rankings.
“Pedro Neto is on Tottenham’s list, maybe not at the top of it right now,” O’Rourke explained, adding that Savinho is the deal Spurs are “really pushing to get done” while they also remain keen on Gakpo.
So Neto is there, but as things stand, he is a contingency rather than the cornerstone of De Zerbi’s attacking rebuild.
Chelsea’s £100m stance on Neto
Any move for Neto would be expensive. TEAMtalk understands Chelsea will demand £100million to even consider parting with the Portugal international.
His representatives are open to exploring a transfer, but the message from Stamford Bridge is blunt: he does not leave on the cheap. Xabi Alonso is in no rush to lose him and would be happy to keep the winger in his squad.
Chelsea are fully aware of the level of interest. Tottenham are not alone, with Manchester City also tracking the situation, while Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have already tested the water.
Al-Hilal are believed to have made a £60million approach, which was swiftly rejected in line with Chelsea’s £100m valuation.
Spurs’ numbers game
That price tag creates a hard reality for Tottenham. Having committed £85m to Savinho, Spurs would be highly unlikely to sanction another nine-figure outlay on a player who most often operates in the same area of the pitch.
For now, Savinho remains the priority, Gakpo the prominent alternative, and Neto the expensive option parked in the background – attractive on the pitch, but far less so on the balance sheet.
