Syracuse Falls to Boston College 2-0 Despite 19 Shots

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Syracuse walked off the Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field on Friday night with the stat sheet, but not the result.

The Orange peppered Boston College with 19 shots, dictated long stretches of play, and still watched the Eagles walk away 2–0 winners. It was a lesson in ruthlessness in front of goal.

Boston College needed just eight shots to settle it.

The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute. After Syracuse had carried much of the attacking threat through a tight first half, Michael Asare punished them after the restart, finding the opener that shifted the entire tone of the night.

From there, Syracuse chased.

They pushed numbers forward, kept firing, and tried to turn pressure into an equalizer. The ball never cooperated. Blocks, deflections, and near-misses piled up while the scoreboard refused to budge.

The punishment for that wastefulness arrived late. Russell Brown doubled the lead, finishing off a move created by Moritz Gundelach, whose assist carved open the Syracuse back line and ended any realistic hope of a comeback.

Kyle Jansen faced only one shot on target in the Syracuse net and turned it aside, but the damage came from chances the Orange couldn’t quite kill at the other end.

Syracuse drops to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, a record that doesn’t quite match the volume of chances they produced in Chestnut Hill. The response has to be quick.

Next up is a trip to Colgate on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. For a team creating this many looks, the question is no longer about opportunities.

It’s about finishing.
