Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt from Liverpool

Sofie Lundgaard’s stop-start Liverpool chapter is over. The midfielder has completed a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt, ending an injury-disrupted spell on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 and went on to make 42 appearances, a tally that hints at promise but also at what might have been. Two anterior cruciate ligament injuries across her three-and-a-half years with the club repeatedly halted her momentum and sharply reduced her game time in recent seasons.

Liverpool now lose a player they never truly saw at full throttle, while Frankfurt gain a technically gifted midfielder with a point to prove in the Frauen-Bundesliga. Lundgaard heads to Germany with top-flight experience already behind her after a previous stint at Danish side Fortuna Hjorring.

While Liverpool reshaped their midfield options, transfer noise elsewhere in the women’s game centred on the West Midlands.

Birmingham City have seen a move for Sevilla winger Fatou Kanteh knocked back, with the Spanish club rejecting an offer understood to be around 100,000 euros (£85,000). Sevilla value the Gambia international significantly higher and have made it clear they do not want to sell.

The stance is firm enough that Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved bid for the 29-year-old, who has spent her entire senior career in Liga F.

Kanteh has scored 12 goals in 63 appearances for Sevilla, having previously turned out for Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono. For now, Sevilla hold their line, Birmingham look elsewhere, and one of Liga F’s established wide threats stays exactly where she is.
