Ronan Curtis Returns to Full Fitness After Knee Surgery

Ronan Curtis insists he is back to his “fully fit best” after summer knee surgery and says the operation has left him with no lingering problems.

The 30-year-old winger, who made his move to Plymouth Argyle permanent from Port Vale in January, went under the knife in the close season to repair a meniscus issue he had carried for a year.

Curtis played through the pain last term, managing the injury across 23 appearances in all competitions and scoring twice as Argyle fought their way through the campaign. The price was regular swelling and a growing reliance on painkillers just to get through games.

“The knee’s good,” he told BBC South West.

He explained he had suffered a slight meniscus tear in last pre-season but chose to push on, only opting for surgery this summer once the problem became too much to ignore.

This time he wanted it fixed properly. The operation done, Curtis says he now feels “stronger, fitter and much better” and free of the discomfort that dogged him.

The change has been obvious in his workload. Curtis has started all five of Argyle’s League One matches so far, as the Pilgrims have opened the season with two wins and two defeats.

He admits the procedure was overdue, describing how the knee would “odd time” swell up and how he had been “taking too many tablets” to get through fixtures. That cycle, he decided, had to end.

Now he talks about faith in his body, not fear of the next reaction. Argyle will expect that conviction to show itself across a long, unforgiving League One season.
