Real Madrid’s summer is already noisy. It may be about to get louder.

Six signings are through the door, the squad reshaped on paper, and yet the message from inside Valdebebas is clear: this rebuild is only halfway done.

Spanish journalist Juanma Rodriguez has claimed that Real Madrid are planning three more additions before the transfer window shuts, with a centre-back and a midfielder at the heart of José Mourinho’s demands. For a club that has already moved aggressively, it underlines the scale of the overhaul.

Six in already – and still not enough

The work so far has been anything but timid. Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries arrived before the World Cup, a quartet that instantly raises the technical and physical level of the team. Carlos Espi and Yan Diomande have since been promoted into the first-team setup, adding fresh energy and depth.

On most summers, that would be the story: business done, squad upgraded, everyone moves on.

Not this time.

Rodriguez, speaking to Defensa Central, has poured fuel on the transfer talk: Real Madrid, he says, are still preparing three further signings.

“There will be more moves, from what I'm told. I understand there will be three signings. One of them is a centre-back and another a midfielder. I mean, beyond what has already been signed,” he revealed.

The implication is stark. What looked like a strong summer of reinforcement is actually just the foundation of a far bigger Mourinho-era rebuild.

Mourinho’s blueprint: secure the back, control the middle

Mourinho has never hidden his preferences. He wants a robust spine, competition in every key position, and a midfield that protects the defence as much as it feeds the attack.

A new centre-back sits near the top of his list. The need for greater depth is obvious: Mourinho wants another defender capable not just of filling in, but of genuinely competing for a starting place. Someone who can walk into a big Champions League night and look like they belong.

Alessandro Bastoni is one of the names closely tied to that vision. The Italian defender, admired for his composure and left-footed balance, is understood to be among Mourinho’s preferred targets. His signing, though, is not straightforward. Any move for Bastoni is said to hinge on Raul Asencio leaving the club first.

Asencio does not feature in Mourinho’s plans, and his departure could trigger a chain reaction in the centre-back department. One exit, one marquee arrival, and a defensive line reshaped in the manager’s image.

The midfield is no less of a priority. Mourinho wants a positional midfielder – someone disciplined, tactically sharp, and willing to sit in front of the defence to provide balance and protection. That profile has been a constant demand since the day he walked into Valdebebas.

Real Madrid are monitoring several options, including Adam Wharton and Kees Smit, as they search for the right fit. The club’s interest is active, the shortlist defined, but the final choice is still open.

A rebuild with Mourinho’s fingerprints all over it

Every move points back to the same source: Mourinho’s blueprint. Real Madrid’s transfer strategy is closely aligned with his demands, from the early signings to the positions still being targeted. Six players have already come in, yet the manager is pushing for more, convinced that the squad still lacks the balance and depth required to compete on every front.
