Raphinha's Hat-Trick Leads Barcelona to Victory Over Sevilla
At the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, Barcelona were rocked early, then barely flinched.
Youssouf Fofana stunned the visitors in the 19th minute, finishing for Sevilla to ignite a stadium that sensed an upset. For a brief spell, Hansi Flick’s unbeaten domestic start looked under genuine threat.
That lasted three minutes.
Andreas Christensen split the lines with a sharp pass, Raphinha drifted into space and drilled home the equaliser. One touch to steady himself, one to silence the noise. From there, Barcelona took the ball, the tempo and, ultimately, the game.
Raphinha, the unexpected No 9
This was supposed to be the season of transition up front. Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres departed in the summer, leaving a clear question through the middle. Flick’s answer has been bold: push Raphinha inside and trust his instincts.
It is working spectacularly.
Already the standout figure in La Liga’s early weeks, the Brazilian turned this night into his own showcase. Having levelled in the first half, he dismantled Sevilla after the break, striking twice more to complete a ruthless hat-trick and drag the match completely out of the hosts’ reach.
By the final whistle, his numbers were staggering. Twelve league goals in just seven appearances. Fourteen in eight across all competitions, with three assists added on top. And tucked inside that record, something even more outrageous: back-to-back hat-tricks in the space of 72 hours, after his treble in the 7-2 demolition of Racing in the previous round.
Raphinha is not just coping as a central striker. He is thriving, attacking the penalty area like a seasoned No 9, timing his runs and finishing with a confidence that has transformed Barcelona’s frontline.
Control, resilience and a new spine
Once level, Barcelona never really loosened their grip. They dominated possession, pinned Sevilla back and created chance after chance, the kind of territorial control that drains belief from a home crowd.
The pressure told in waves rather than in one single moment. Raphinha’s second and third goals simply underlined what had already become clear: Flick’s side were playing the game in Sevilla’s half, dictating the rhythm and picking their moments to strike.
At the other end, there was a different kind of statement.
Dominik Livakovic, making his debut in goal, looked assured. He read Sevilla’s breaks well, stepped up with solid stops and brought a calm presence behind a reshaped back line. Any lingering nerves from the early setback faded as he dealt with the home side’s best efforts.
The defence in front of him, led by Pau Cubarsí and Eric Garcia, tightened up quickly after Fofana’s opener. Sevilla were pushed into taking shots from difficult angles, their clear-cut chances reduced to almost nothing as the minutes ticked by. Even when Christensen limped off with a thigh injury in the second half, Barcelona’s structure held firm.
Lamine Yamal stretches the game
On the flank, Lamine Yamal gave Sevilla a different problem entirely. Direct, fearless and constantly demanding the ball, he stretched the pitch and forced Odysseas Vlachodimos into action several times.
Crucially, he delivered when it mattered most. Two of Raphinha’s goals came from his work on the wing, sharp, decisive assists that cut through Sevilla’s resistance. Every time he isolated his marker, the home defence braced for trouble. Too often for Sevilla’s liking, it arrived.
As the game wore on, the pattern felt familiar: Barcelona probing, Sevilla chasing, the visitors’ collective quality steadily overwhelming the contest. By the closing stages, the 3-1 scoreline reflected not just a comeback, but control.
Top of the table, bigger tests ahead
The win keeps Barcelona perfect in La Liga, sitting clear at the top with 21 points and a growing sense of authority. Flick’s team are not just collecting results; they are building an identity built on aggression with the ball and resilience without it.
There is still concern, of course, over Christensen’s thigh injury, with the coach set to assess his fitness in the coming days. The calendar offers no room to breathe.
Getafe await on October 10 in the league, a different kind of battle, followed quickly by a crucial Champions League clash with Galatasaray on October 13. With Raphinha in this form and the team’s spine hardening by the week, the question is no longer whether Barcelona can compete.
It is how far this version of Barcelona can go.
